A greenhouse lets you create your own microclimate, controlling the temperature and humidity you expose your plants to. Whether you want to grow vegetables all year long, cultivate exotic plants, or start seedlings off very early in the season, your greenhouse provides the adaptable growing environment you need.
I have wanted a greenhouse for some time now. We finally did it end of summer last year. A gardener without a greenhouse is a bit like a cook without a stove. If you want to grow crops all year long, grow off-season crops or exotic plants like tropical plants, then yes, getting a greenhouse is worth it. The space enables you to grow different plants any time of the year because it stays warm even during the cold months.
Extending the growing season
So I guess the covid lining of the cloud is how we grew over the past few years. Literally. Looking back through my photos of food that we grew ourselves- we were so blessed! We grew hundreds of pounds of our own food in our small suburban backyard and gave away so much of it. At times I was overwhelmed with countertops covered in food, stocked freezers - couple of times I even cried bc my weekends were spent harvesting food, only to remember so many were in need this year and starving. I learned to can - making everything from pickles to salsas. My cooking skills improved significantly. I hope others join us next year in growing their own organic food and share their abundance. When I called the food pantries to offer my imperfect organic foods, they were so grateful. Stay safe everyone.
